Conjoined Tucker Twins Successfully Separated

Two little girls started their lives connected to one another in a way that few siblings experience. They were conjoined twins. Allison and Amelia Tucker have been successfully surgically separated from each other. The twins need to undergo some therapy, but are doing well. Allison June Tucker, and Amelia Lee Tucker, were born as conjoined twins. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, this is rare. It only occurs in one out of every 200,000 live births. Two Sets of Conjoined Twins in the News

Conjoined twins is the term used to describe babies who are born with some portion of their body physically attached to the body of their sibling. This is a rare occurrence. Recently, in the news, there have been stories about two sets of conjoined twins, from two different families. Only around 1 out of every 50,000 pregnancies result in conjoined twins. Even fewer, around 1 in every 250,000 sets of conjoined twins make it to a live birth. Many die before that can occur. Conjoined Twins May Soon Have Reality TV Series

Tatiana and Krista Hogan are twin sisters, who are currently four years old. The first thing most people would notice about these two girls is that they are conjoined at the head. Despite this, they each have a very distinct and separate personality from each other. There is some talk that the girls may, someday, be featured on a reality television show, based on their family. Babies in the News – Conjoined Twins from North Dakota Are Separated

Yesterday, doctors were successful in their attempt to separate 5-month old twins who were conjoined at the chest. The procedure took six hours and the physicians at the Mayo Clinic stated that the procedures went exceptionally well. The twins were conjoined at the chest and had been in the hospital for 99 days, but yesterday marked their first day as separate individuals. There were 40 people on the medical team involved in the surgery that separated the two young girls. The twins began their stay at the Mayo Clinic when doctors implanted tissue expanders.
